Clean diesel has been driven in Europe, so this isn't a surprise. Buses should be converted to CNG -compressed natural gas- which is a clean fuel and in far more abundance than fossil fuels.

Yes, they will be soon hooking breathing O2 tanks up to the exhaust on these vehicles to save money for senior citizens needing O2 and saving the Gov. money on health care.

Oil is no longer considered a fossil fuel. Regardless, the noise, smell, black smoke, and hard starts in cold weather would make me walk away from diesel in a heart beat. Not even a consideration.

It was just a matter of time. They've been working on this for a long time. As for black smoke from exhaust - that's unburned fuel.

I guess we better stop using diesel fuel than. Can't have this because that means we would have to produce more fossil fuel.

a lot of times that black smoke is an indication of a badly maintained engine. it probably needs the equivelant of a tune-up

At last the diesel engine manufacturers are getting close to the promise of Dr. Diesel's process. Shameful that it was only international regulations that forced them to both improve and clean-up the dangerously unhealthy particulate emissions. They do not deserve any awards for improvements they should have made 50 years ago!

This, I have got to see.
All diesel trucks I remember seeing on the highways have an exhaust high above the truck (where the driver is not bothered by the smell) belching out black smoke.

with a little luck they can transfer the clean technology to a smaller diesel engine for use in light trucks and small cars. europe is way ahead of the auto industry in this country.

WCurtis - can't argue with logic like that...
After all, plant life would never have evolved without those old Buicks and Fords running on dinosaur juice. So that means you are a creationist? (Oops.. sorry, 'Intelligent Designer'... LOL!!)
