The Price We Paid: Gas Is Down, Maybe For A While

NPR -- After spending much of the year on the rise, gas prices are now falling. The average price for a gallon of regular gas nationwide is $3.73, according to AAA. That's a drop of nearly 20 cents in one month. Industry analysts expect the price to keep falling.

You can get in a lot trouble trying to predict commodity prices, though. Phil Flynn, a market analyst at futures brokerage PFGBEST in Chicago, says there is one thing you can predict.

"I always kind of kid around that the first sign of spring in this country is when politicians start complaining about high gas prices," he says.

Sure enough, the political commentary began in early spring.

"It's as simple as this: The emperor has no clothes," House Speaker John Boehner said. "And they can't talk about their record on gas prices

BobD2009 .... Again, your right on target. They just jumped 12 cents in California last week and may jump another 15 - 25 cents by midweek there. they say its due to a refinery being closed in Washington but you know this will just give speculators reason to start it soaring again.

With Obama allowing the market to dictate the gas prices because it is an election year, the market is correcting the prices. Just wait if he as four years where he does not have to worry about re election. Too bad for Biden though.

Gas prices certainly aren't falling in California. I paid $4.39 a gallon for regular this morning. That's ridiculous - especially when a barrel of oil has fallen to $95. But then again, that's Cali's "tax and tax again" policy for ya.

"The U.S. production of oil is at the highest level it's been probably since the 1960s," he says, "and that's going to give us lower gasoline prices, hopefully in the future."

More Speculation! So its down to $3.79 here, but I was paying $3.13 before Iran said something that made them cash in on higher profits!

it's ridiculous when Energy & Food can be regulated by Speculators. Little difference from Blackmail when it's necessities of survival. Gamble all they want on luxuries but they shouldn't be allowed to manipulate, monopolise & commit collusion to Rob the people. The current drop in Gas or Oil prices just emphasies how much the Speculators control the price. That's a $.60/gal difference in some areas. Drop from around $4.00/gal to #3.40/gal. When supply & demand didn't change that much.

The price of gas is still high, even though it is falling in a number of locations. It sure is no surprise that politicians want to use it for attention. The national election is coming and it is one subject too use!!!

Maybe these huge loses to JPMorgan has slowed down their speculations and market manipulations. Is that why the price of crude is down a little.
