Porsche-Volkswagen showdown looms

CNN Money -- FRANKFURT (Reuters) -- Porsche's squabbling owners are set to discuss an investment by Qatar in the next two weeks, a milestone which could change the dynamics of a Porsche/Volkswagen merger, people close to the talks said.

A decision on Qatar's entry may come even before key family members are set to gather at a Volkswagen supervisory board meeting on July 15, and a day later for the centenary celebrations at VW unit Audi, the people said.

Spokesmen for Porsche and VW declined to comment.

A successful investment from Qatar could strengthen Porsche Chief Executive Wendelin Wiedeking's negotiating hand as he tries to strike a deal with VW

I fail to see how this affects us, if at all. This country's auto industry has enough problems as it is.

Mmene hit the nail on the head; we are mortgaging our future with peole who don't much like us. Conserve! The oil doesn't do them any good if it's left sitting in the ground.

Sounds like Porsche has tried to buy Volkswagen whether they wanted to be bought or not. Now it has turned around to bite them in the butt.

What an insider, crooked deal are they up to? Oil rich Qatar and car manufacturers in bed together. Cousins fighting cousins. What a mess. Too bad because i kinda liked Porsche. Now I'm done with that.

Maybe Obama will have pity on the middle class working stiff and give us a bailout by sending each one of us a new Porsche. Why not, the rest of the tarp money seems to be heading over seas.

VW and Porsche have been related since Porsche was formed. This is just another round in their sibling squabbling.

I have no idea what some people are talking about. None of the three parties are American and Obama is not mentioned in the article, yet he still gets a mention in someone's reply.

My '98 VW Passat gets over 30 mpg with over 150K in milage. Love everything about the car with slight reservation on the maintenance cost. If and when I have the money for a new vehicle, I will check out VW and Ford.

For decades, Porsche, VW, and Audi have shared parts amongst themselves. They are not separate like most Americans see Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

There are too many auto companies on this rock, anyway. The first to go away should be Geeley.
