Gas to be sold for $1.84 at Meriden station Thursday

Meriden Record-Journal -- MERIDEN — Gas prices hovering around $4 a gallon have become a focus of local and national races as the Nov. 6 election approaches.

In the past year, state Sen. Len Suzio, R-Meriden, has made the cost of gas one of his main issues. Even before the legislative session started, Suzio had announced a plan to control the cost of gas by capping the gross receipts tax. The fluctuating tax is placed on distributors, who pass it on to consumers.

Suzio’s proposal failed in the legislature, but Democratic leadership won passage of a measure that included a similar cap.

Today, Suzio will be at Danby’s Gulf Express at 872 E. Main St., where consumers can get up to 15 gallons of gas for $1.84 a gallon between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

His Democratic challenger in the 13th Senate District, City Councilor Da

And when Richard Nixon became President, gas was 35 cents a gallon--when he quit it was 1.50 a gallon. The President of the United States has nothing to do with the price of fuel, nor can he control it. The bastards at OPEC control the the world market, although, lately they have kept themselves in a very low profile. The triple spike during Nixon's reign was brought on by the EXACT same reason that prices today are jumping. The second Mid-East crisis of 1973-1974 did it. And, today, the Mid-East, one again, is causing the price hikes. Thank you, Iran, Syria, and all you other extreme, radical, and savage bastards!!!!!!!!!!

I wish they would indicate the state right at the top in the local-issue articles.
I hope folks will stop their engines while waiting in line to avoid wasting gas.
