Exxon's Polish Fracking Plans Hit Air Pocket

Forbes -- Exxon Mobil announced that the gas flow from its two exploratory wells drilled in Poland did not justify bringing them into production. [1]

Analysts have speculated that the technical challenges associated with shale exploration in the country made it commercially non-viable to explore the resources.

If so, this would be a major setback for Exxon’s plans to expand shale exploration in Europe as Poland has some the best shale prospects in the region and the government has been eager to exploit the resources to reduce dependence on Russian gas. Competitor Chevron is also drilling exploratory wells in Poland.

at least Europe will be a place of fresh drinking water that's not as polluted by fracking as it has been in the US and Canada.

Those who assume fraking is all bad should do more research. If they did enough research into the subject, they would find only a very small percent of fraking wells cause any problem & those should have not been permitted from the onset as they were too shallow and too near deep water supplies. Otherwise as for waste water, like all Manufacturing or any industry with chemical waste it has to be properly disposed of to prevent problems. Nuclear waste is far more deadly for thousands of years.

It took decades of loss of freedom for these iron curtain countries to appreciate an economic opportunity such as this. I hope that we wont need to experience these losses before we begin to appreciate how well we actually have it now.

I am sure that Exxon has lost a lot of money on this exploration that didn't prove to be commercially viable. People forget how much "big" oil spends to gain the profits that they make.

These are "technological challenges" worth solving. The Poles are good people. When these problems are solved both the oil companies and the people of Poland will benefit.

You may find kielbasa served at a future fracking rig. But no brie... to many "watermellon" NIMBY's in that part of Europe.

I definitely think there needs to be more studies done in this area. They can afford it & if it's safe it will pay off in the end.
