Chrysler parts supplier strike threatens thousands

CBC News -- A potential strike at an automotive parts plant in Lakeshore, Ont., has put the region's auto community on edge.

Officials and workers at Johnson Controls have been in talks over a new contract since Monday, but workers say they'll walk off the job if they don't reach a collective agreement by midnight Friday.

If Johnson's 120 workers strike, thousands of workers at Chrysler's Windsor assembly plant and other parts suppliers could be affected.

Ford is dealing with the same mess here. Chrysler is working on closing more dealerships now. They may not need many parts soon. So close the plant. That would take 120 overpaid workers off of the payroll.

Till then let them try to find another job that will offer them what they are asking for. Guaranteed they'll be looking for work for a very long time.

Like most Auto union strikes, the piece (however small) threatens to affect the whole line & often multiple plants. This is how unions yield power these days....hold the co. up for ransom with ridiculous demands. The issue here...since economy is bad & profits down at this supply co. we will cost them even more money with a strike to save our jobs which will be worsened by the strike. Very counterintuitive, not striking is their best job security move here...plus that of a whole chunk of Chrysler. If this happens, & triggers Chrysler going belly up...do you think the unions (both sides of the border) will learn - no way, since law allowed it to happen it will encourage them to do the same with Ford & GM. Only way Chryco & GM could have been helped thru bankruptcy was the disruption of the unions - at least for a specified period of time.

(no pun intended) Unions served an important purpose 100 years ago. How can an intelligent person not see that they played a major part in the destruction of not only the auto industry but also the steel industry in the U.S.?

They wanted a 10 cent raise, the company was offering 5 cents. After about 7 months they settled on a 7 cent increase. It has taken those workers who struck until now to recover the wages they lost while on strike.
