I'm all for the payback. I predict Chrysler will plug along a few more years and Fiat will dump them. Their trucks can't carry them forever.

Why are they basing their hopes on SUV's? The next oil shock will finish them off for good.

I wouldn't write CJD off yet. I love my Jeep and think the (now defunct) Magnum, 300 and Pacifica are beautifully designed vehicles.

Chrysler's time has come and gone. If they don't have anything groundbreaking like the K-cars and minivans of the 80's with good fuel efficiency and engine horsepower wrapped in a stunning design (which they are usually good at, but not recently) by next year, they may be gone for good.

It sounds like new K cars for Chrysler they do not work in the late 70 or early 80.

Boy I can hear it now; a muscle car based on efficient transmissions and small engines. Poor Charger!

I agree with Graceman. If we don't buy American, we are helping someone else's economy. Obama is already doing a marvelous job of that all by himself.

the most telling statement in the whole article is "Marchionne has said Fiat wouldn't contribute any of its own money to Chrysler." Look out American taxpayers, here he comes.... Again I say, when he starts building Fiats, Chryslers, Alfas, Ferraris, call 'em whateveryouwant; when Americans start building vehicles for the company in Fenton, MO, I will consider buying one. Not until.

Most likely will end up a loser and back in bankruptcy if they try to undersize the engines for the US market.

Mainly foreign designed and foreign made stuff or a bunch of foreign parts. Like I said months ago, they're (the big corporations, the automakers, the government, etc.) still shipping our jobs overseas. Wake up America!

I don't see it happening, them making a good enough profit to stay out of bankruptcy. When you have the UAW and the Obama administration having a controlling interest they can't do anything but fail. The UAW will try to get more and more benefits and raises for its workers, who are already overpaid for unskilled laborers, and Obama will go along because he wants their help next year and when he runs for reelection in 3 years.

Italian production will be helpful if adequate information on the new designs and are adequate spares are available. Poor performance, poor service, and a lack of parts will kill Chrysler.

I recently took my '03 Dodge Ram with a 5.9 Cummins and went 3,800 miles. My average mpg was 19.5. Had there been a 3:54 axes ration it would have been about 22.5. Also had there been a real 6 speed transmission (manual) which had an overdrive and no compound the mileage would have been around 25. If I could buy the above described truck I would order one today.
