Chrysler aims to pump life into car lineup

Associated Press -- AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Chrysler plans to pump life into its car lineup with technology from its new Italian partner, Fiat SpA, and says it has the cash to do it as it starts to combine the two automakers.

CEO Sergio Marchionne, who also runs Fiat, began unveiling Chrysler's new five-year business plan on Wednesday. The plan includes multiple new vehicles for the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram brands, most based on Fiat's more efficient transmissions and small engines.

He said the troubled company's cash has grown by nearly $2 billion since it exited bankruptcy protection in June, and its operations broke even in September because of savings from job cuts and factory closings by the prior owner and through combining Chrysler and Fiat's operations.

If they don't have anything groundbreaking like the K-cars and minivans of the 80's with good fuel efficiency and engine horsepower wrapped in a stunning design (which they are usually good at, but not recently) by next year, they may be gone for good. When you have the UAW and the Obama administration having a controlling interest they can't do anything but fail. The UAW will try to get more and more benefits and raises for its workers, who are already overpaid for unskilled laborers, and Obama will go along because he wants their help next year and when he runs for reelection in 3 years.

My average mpg was 19.5. Had there been a 3:54 axes ration it would have been about 22.5. Also had there been a real 6 speed transmission (manual) which had an overdrive and no compound the mileage would have been around 25. If I could buy the above described truck I would order one today.
