Worst of oil spike is over- U.S. poll

The Globe And Mail -- WASHINGTON — Most Americans think that the worst of the fuel price spike that pushed gasoline above $4 (U.S.) per gallon has passed, but they have little hope that the housing market will stage a swift recovery, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.

The economy has jumped to the top of voters' concerns this election year, eclipsing the Iraq War, and that has put the housing bust and rising inflation squarely in the spotlight.

The poll of 1,089 likely voters found that just under 13 per cent thought gasoline prices would rise a lot between now and the end of the year. About one quarter thought prices would rise a little, while one in three thought they would drop a little and 18 per cent said they would stay about the same.

Goto has his own little political agenda. Nothing based on fact, just the usual b.s. HybridPete is right, no matter who gets into the White House, prices will go right back up.

Goto

What kind of analysis would bring you to that idea? Is it conservative analysis (an oxymoron)? Or did you think of it yourself?

Now everybody wants to believe that the oil bubble has burst. It has got a lot further to tumble to make up for the huge run-up.

It is nice to see it go down and stay down for a while but I believe they went to $4 dollars to make us happy with where it is right now, even though its still to high, over a dollar a gallon more than last year.

it will jump as soon as the olympics are over. the chinese, in an effort to reduce smog during olympics, allowed only half of its population to drive each day prior to and during the olympics. when they start driving again, gas will jump. Then the heating oil costs up north will make it jump again, double whammy for the us.

I think the spike was just a test for the next time and then the real thing. I think we are getting a breather due to a lot of different reasons mostly people not traveling which means not buying.

Sentraholic - Good point, but please, go easy on our fellow motorists! I too have a history of good mileage cars, with a 2008 Chevy Cobalt getting 40 mpg currently in my driveway. Two Chevy Cavaliers and a Ford Ranger have also gave me great service along with good mileage. Back in the day, I did own two Dodge B-350 Maxivan V8s that really sucked gas, but that was when gas was cheap, and I ran a contracting business.

Many of the posts are spot on: Conserve, conserve, conserve! Even with prices falling, DO NOT go back to your old ways. Prices will settle when WE get comfortable again.

Conserve, conserve, conserve! Thanks to MLK Jr (not Barrack Hussein) for the triple use style of words to get a point across.

God Bless America.

If you don't pull a trailer, stop buying trucks and SUVs! Leave those vechicles to people that really need them.

Recent poll suggests that Arab terror-sponsoring states are going to continue to capitalize on all the idiot soccer-moms buying SUVs to ride around in, at 78 mph, ALONE...

My current car, a four-door Nissan Sentra which averages 35 mpg, is the biggest car I've ever bought.

Thanks to all you status-symbol-minded retards who think the opinions of your fellow-idiot neighbors matter more than anything else.

These same consumers thought purchasing gas guzzlers and SUVs was a good idea a couple of years ago. Polls are good for entertainment value only.

Eventually, the price of gasoline will go up - just how much is the question.
As long as it stays at a reasonable price - that will be a good thing.....
