Lawmakers worry about East Coast refining capacity

Reuters -- With the East Coast poised to lose 50 percent of its oil refining capacity, three members of Congress on Monday worried that while the country is producing more of its own crude oil, it might grow more dependent on other countries for gasoline and diesel fuel.

Pennsylvania Congressman Pat Meehan hosted a panel of energy experts for a field meeting in Aston, Pennsylvania, of the Committee on Homeland Security.

Meehan and two other legislators, Congressmen John Carney from neighboring Delaware and Mike Fitzpatrick from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, peppered the experts with questions about fuel prices and logistics as well as national security.

So if you think we are going to "Drill Baby Drill" we will still not get any relief at the pump.

Environmentalists will block any new refinery permitting, so these closed refineries are lost forever. There was a story a few weeks back stating that these refineries might be dismantled and moved to other countries.

They have to allow the oil companies (yes, Big Oil) to build or repair their refineries into a profitable entity. The alternative is for the residents to pay for fuel to be shipped (by tanker, train or truck) in from other regions.

The sole and ONLY reason they are closing them is to maximize their profits and do what monopolies do, get as much money as quickly as possible then throw a propaganda screen out telling everyone---IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT. Alternatives and electrification of vehicles is the ONLY answer.

So I have decided to vote with my dollars and purchase my gas from other companies.

I will never forget the long lines at the handful of stations with gas, cars following tankers and running out of fuel, and the occasional fisticuffs.

Kinder-Morgan has been doing this for decades From California refinerys to Reno and Las Vegas metro areas.
