U.S. Exempts Japan, 10 EU Nations From Iran Oil Sanctions

Bloomberg -- The Obama administration is sending a message to major buyers of Iranian oil -- in particular China, India and South Korea -- that they can avoid new U.S. sanctions by curtailing their imports of Iranian crude by the end of June, several U.S. officials said.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced yesterday that an “initial group” of countries -- Japan and 10 European Union nations -- have “significantly reduced” their Iranian oil purchases and thus qualified for an exemption from sanctions for a renewable period of 180 days under the law.

The U.S. didn’t grant waivers to China (CCCIIQIR), the leading importer of Iranian crude in the first half of last year, or to India and South Korea, which were the third- and fourth-largest buyers, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Russia has been a major Oil Importer from Iraq and Iran for many years, even before the Iraq War in 1991. They have a direct connection via the Caspian Sea and Tankers to Kazkastan, and I believe o have herd of a pipe line from Iran to Kazkastan. Petroleum is a fungible commodity. Some of the exempt countries will simply buy Iranian crude and then re-sell it to other countries which are ostensibly complying with the sanctions! What a joke!

No one will ever put US sanctions against China. #1, the consumer, who buys (excluding food) 90+% Chinese products vs. those made elsewhere globally will revolt when they can't get $100 TVs, $1 party favors and free Happy Meal toys. #2, Congress, who needs China to buy all our debt as we spend ourselves into a hole we won't be able to climb out of without either slavery or war, will revolt when China is no longer buying and they actually have to cut spending, knowing they will ALL lose their jobs the next election.

This puts a squeeze on overall supply and hurts us all at the Pump. This country has poor leadership in more ways than one.
