Downright giddy doesn't begin to describe it. In October of 1998, you could buy gas for 99 cents a gallon. You read right: 99 cents a gallon. And in 1998 no one thought that anyone in their right mind would pay over $1.50 for gas......But greed and in action turned that resolve into soft reaction.

I remember gas stations having a problem the first time gas went over $.99/gal., because the price per gallon on pumps only when up to $.999/gal. and then some gas stations tried to sell gasoline by the liter to get the price on the pump back down.

I've been at the same job where it went from less than 99 cents to almost $5. For some reason, I seem to enjoy the lower price better.

M4225; I remember filling up my Chevy 54 during a gas war in 1957 for 24 cents an imperial gallon in Ottawa, Canada. "Them`s the conditions what prevailed" as my hockey friend related during a radio interview.

Ah the dreams of yesteryear before the greed of the oilbarons, the speculators and the oil producers. Lack of control killed those happy days!
