We can only hope the spike in crude and gas prices are over. I'm not quite convinced yet!

Yup, oil's almost over $120 again, it'll probably go over sometime today and stay there. They're saying conditions now are the same as when it made the run at $150, econimic jitters and a weak dollar, wouldn't be surprised if that happens again. We could hit $150 by Labor Day after all!
Better fill up now before the gas hikes start!

Prices will have their ups and downs from day to day, but it's been one step up and two steps down lately trending in the right direction.

The dem's have been blocking drilling since the 80's - now look where we are...and government is making more money than ever off this why would the dem's want to drill...that cut's off they money for their little pet projects that they have going in their own states. They think we are so dumb. The one's that don't want to vote for drilling need to be voted out of office. That will speak louder than any words that they brush off.
Drill here...Drill now...

Prices are shooting up again to $119. That's a $4 hike so far today. It is rather foolish to think that they will not rise even more.

"poll of 1,089 likely voters" Wow, a whole 0.000004% of the population of the US. And you think that is a good estimate of how people in the US feel?! Give me a break!!

Most Americans are living in Pollyanna's Never-never Land. Poll oil speculators. Poll oil company worker-bees even. 1089 likely voters -- doesn't that say something about the quality of government. We're going to get exactly what we deserve. Unfortunately. It doesn't matter which "side" wins, the quality stays the same.

----------------------------------- Our government is not for US it is for the paid lobbyists We need to get RID of the paid lobbyists. So the people WE elect listen to us and not be controlled be the greedy corporations. ----------------------------------- STOP POLITICIANS and STAFF from becoming Lobbyists or working for the companies that they controlled when in Government. Maybe make it a crime to be a paid lobbyist. -----------------------------------

Don't get lulled into a false sense of security. Since the 2005 hurricane season when Katrina and Rita devistated the US southwest, Gas prices have steadily risen. At that time parices were around $2.50\gl. In the time since 2005 there have been a couple periods where prices dropped but only to rebound and climb higher.
Kind of strange now that we are getting closer to elections that prices start dropping. I give partial credit to consumers reduceing\conserving their fuel useage along with more people staying closer to home this summer and traveling less. You can expect that to change when consumer feel the price is 'reasonable' they will start increaseing their usage again and prices will begin to climb.
The US needs a real energy plan and neither elected party (Dem\Rep) has made a real effort to take that forward (IMO). Unless our elected officials start working together rather than trying to devide us, things aren't going to get better. It's time to push development and implementation of alternative energy resources.
Also think about all the consumer products made of plastics. A major ingredient for synthetic materials (plastics) is petroleom. Oils isn't just for driving our vehicles, it plays a major part in our everyday lives as well.

If we get complacient about the gas prices going down and the possibility of the economy recovering fast this will happen all over again and next time it will be worse.

Rajah is right, this one is over, wait another 10 years for the NEXT huge hike. It's time to get real serious about alternative fuels, that will keep oil and gas prices down.

I dont think the price spike is over forever. I think that this was some big test (manipulation) by OPEC or the Stock Market Traders... to see how much we would tolerate as consumers and as a country. I fear that this was just a hint of things to come. Maybe not next week, next month, etc - but its best to get prepared now - for another big spike in prices down the road. (We still have winter fuel-oil prices to deal with in a few short months too.)
