Offshore oil project will spark N. L. construction boom

The Expositor -- Newfoundland and Labrador will give the green light to the $5-billion Hebron offshore oil project today, setting off a long-awaited construction boom that's expected to bring a small army of skilled, young workers back to the province over the next three years.

Calvin Farewell, 27, hopes to be among them.

The Newfoundlander currently commutes each month to work in the tarsands near Fort McMurray, Alta. He says he's eager to learn details of how much work the oil consortium will be required to carry out at the shipyard in his hometown of Marystown.

We need for congress to come back from their extended taxpayer paid vacation and address this now. Pelosi and demos are blocking the offshore drilling in US, which includes 50 miles inland. Drill Here, Drill Now to meet our needs until a good economical alternative is developed.

Rogerparry says, "Keep the oil flowing and develop alternative sources of energy."

I agree. We need some time for the alternatives to come on line. Right now I don't think Americans can sustain the economy with the energy prices where they are. Forget about what is costs to go on a vacation and just think of what it is going to cost to heat your home this winter!! It is going to get really ugly!!

That's right and China has a deal with Cuba to drill off the coast of Florida and they will be able to drill sideways to our oil.

There will be a need for new sources of oil to help get us through the future until new energy/transportation research produces something.

Ol' Gotonerds just needs to get a life!! Real thinkers know that ol' shrub and his bunch have too much to lose if their oil buds can't rip us off so the ripoffs will keep on happening to us little guys and this "drill, drill, drill" junk is right up their ally.

There will be an awful lot of jobs up for grabs in Alberta, when all the Newfoundlanders start migrating back home. Production of the tar sands may have to slow down. The new project may go ahead, at the cost of slowing an existing one down.

More drilling is only a temporary solution. The time to develop alternative fuel sources is now, before oil prices get out of control.

The liberal Donkeycrats will hinder any attempts of the US focusing on offshore drilling while the rest of the world stakes their claim.

Not only will offshore drilling help with oil prices, it will give people jobs. Plus it keeps our money out of the hands of governments that don't seem to like us. It's a win-win-win situation.

Canada is actively pursuing oil and exploration.
Canada has a goal in sight.
Its a lot more then what the US is doing.....
The US federal government can't even figure out how to get offshore oil drilling started.
