Romney is an idiot if he doesn't realize that putting more holes in the ground doesn't mean a thing if you're closing refineries and sending fuels overseas. This November it's going to be a choice of lesser evils, and Romney's not winning that one.

Higher costs to extract the oil will mean prices have to be high enough to make drilling profitable.
Let's develop alternatives to fossil fuels and internal combustion engines.

I am sure gas would be cheaper, but we may not be alive if the oil companies could just drill without concern for the envirionment or our water.

People who say drill-baby-drill need to have their heads drilled in order to behold the vast emptiness inside.
Everyone has a right to their own opinion. However, people do not have a right to their own facts.

Well, no duh! Do you mean to tell me oil is not a renewable energy? For real!?!? Well, I thought dionsaurs were dying every day. Of course we'll eventually run out of oil, and we'll keep looking for alternatives. But, we need to get off the foreign oil and start drinking from our own wells.

I agree we need to look broad and wide for better solutions but drilling is part of it.

Buying more oil from outside the country sure isn't going to make gas prices go down.

Goatroper hit the nail on the head. For oil independence, we need to access every bit of oil we have in the US while we continue to research and develop alternative energy sources. Our dependency on oil will be in our future for a few more generations, but we cannot make it to the future if we let the price of gas and oil destroy our economy.

Really?
What is Krugman smoking?
Has he not see the oil boom economy in West Texas? Central Texas? North Texas? Everywhere fracking is going on?
We thought drill, baby drill meant just lower oil prices. We were wrong. It meant thousands upon thousands to millions of jobs in the private sector. It is also helping with gas prices in spite of an administration that is doing everything it can to kill our economy.

So sad that so many people are so ignorant that they actually believe that more drilling would lower pump prices... and the Republicans know supply won't help, but they pound the issue hoping people will believe.

Drilling is not the ONLY answer, but it IS a component of energy self sufficiency. We need renewables, better infrastructure, better economy from our vehicles....and above all a comprehensive plan encompassing it all. Barry's answer of "you need a better vechicle" is not 100% wrong, but it is pretty arrogant.

Consider the source. Krugman is a Kenyan mouthpiece. But the election looks like it's coming to whether you want a Mormon or a muslim in the WH. At least Romney and his wife haven't expressed the disdain for America that Kenyan and his wife have.

Supply and demand must mean nothing. Natural gas prices are low because of what? We have much more than we can use. Oil prices are high because the world wide demand for oil is still high and there is a threat to the the continued access to it. If we, or Canada could replace some of the existing sources, prices would be affected.
